Rimmer's Tale

A Recruiting Update on 2013 F Schuyler Rimmer

Name: Schuyler Rimmer
Height: 6'10
Weight: 235lbs.
High School: Boone HS (Orlando)
AAU Team: Q6 All Stars-Elite

Q: Talk about your early recruitment and how that has evolved over the past year?
A: “I’m pretty sure it was Seth Greenberg out of Virginia Tech who first talked to me and called me. Since then it has done a complete 180. Around this time last year I had two offers (Virginia Tech and UCF). I now have offers from Penn State, Miami, USC, Boston College, UMASS and Tennessee. I also have interest from Harvard, Stanford, Virginia, Florida, Georgia, Vanderbilt and a couple of other schools.”

Q: How important are the relationships you’ve built over the past year versus the schools that are just starting to recruit you now?
A:”Penn State and Tennessee have been recruiting me for a while. At this point I’m open to any school. I think schools that have been recruiting me for a while have a good chance. I want to make an educated decision. I don’t want to make a rash decision.”

Q: What are the important factors you will look at when making your decision?
A: “Most important thing to me is a college that is well rounded, that can provide me my specific, different needs. I’m looking for a school that has a good basketball program, but also has a good academic program so I’m prepared for whatever comes next after my collegiate career.”

Q: What do you want to major in?
A: “Something with a financial background. Financial accounting or business management, something like that.”

Q: It sounds like the highly touted academic schools are after you, such as Stanford and Harvard, is that the type of school you want to go to?
A: “Stanford, if they could offer me now, they would. They have certain procedures that have to be done before they can offer me. I have to be admitted by their academic advisors before they can offer me.”

Q: What do you want to get out of AAU?
A: “I’ve been playing with Q6 for what will be my fourth year now. I’m just trying to become the best player that I can. Coach Anderson has really helped me do that. He is running this team like a college team, using his experience at LSU to help him. One of his goals is to prepare each of us for Division 1 basketball.”

Q: Do you think you want to make an early decision on which school you’ll be attending?
A: “Before this past open period in April, I thought I’d want my decision to be made early, but the way things are going now, schools showing interest, I still think before my senior season would be a good timeline but I may extend it out to the late signing period.”

Q: Last Question, who would you say are your top four schools right now (in no particular order)?
A: “I’m not sure. I think probably, as of right now; Stanford, Miami, Penn State and USC.”
